As long as no one is waiting for items, all library materials can be renewed in person, over the phone (862-3550) or through the website.
Get to the library?
Edythe Dyer Community Library is located at 269 Main Road North in Hampden, Maine. To get there from Bangor drive about 3 miles south of the Paul Bunyon statue, see the library sign on the left; you will see the Library in about three tenths of a mile.
From the intersection of Western Avenue (Route 9) and Main Road North (Route 1A) drive north for about 1 mile, see the library sign on the right; you will see the Library in about three tenths of a mile.
Get a library card?
If you live in or pay property taxes in Hampden, just bring something with your name and current address (current license, state issued Maine State ID, or a utility bill). You’ll fill out and sign a short application card and that’s it. See the Library Card Policy in the Policies page of this website.
Get a card if I don’t live in Hampden?
The Library is funded with Hampden property taxes, so a non-resident fee of $35 is required for people who are not property taxpayers in Hampden. Non-residents are able to attend programs and use the library, the card is necessary to check materials out.
Faxes can be sent for $1.00 per page, we are not able to receive incoming faxes. Ask for details at the circulation desk.
Copies may be made at the copier in the circulation room. There is a small fee for copies and computer print outs.
Return items when the library is closed?
There is an after-hours book drop in the alcove to the left of the front entrance. Hampden Hardware (at the corner of Western Avenue and Main Road North) has a book drop just inside the door.
Access the library’s wireless Internet?
You can access the Edythe Dyer Wireless connection inside or outside the building. Keep in mind that this is an unsecured connection.
How do I donate materials?
Material donations may be made anytime during regular business hours. For special or large donations call first (862-3550). If materials won’t go into the catalog, they will be given to the Friends of Edythe Dyer Library. Please do not donate encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest condensed books, VHS or audio tapes.
How do I make a monetary donation?
Monetary donations can be made to the Endowment Fund during the November annual appeal, ask the Library Director to add your name to the donor list to receive a donor card each year. You may also make donations in memory or honor of a loved one through the Library Director. You may also drop a donation into the jar on the Circulation Desk.
